I think that the blogosphere is probably the closest thing around today to a true free market.  It doesn’t cost much to get started.  If you produce a product that people like they will consume it.  And, so far at least, the gummamint has kept its stupid mitts off of it.  I expect that will change if the next President is a Democrat.  It appears that I have not produced a product that interests people.  Well, not many, anyway.  So it’s time to pull the plug and move on to other things.

I want to thank those few of you who have checked in regularly to find out what I’ve been thinking about.  It’s odd that of the several people who encouraged me to try producing a blog, I only know of one who ever “tuned in” on a regular basis.  I do truly appreciate those of you who have, but writing is not an easy process for me and I’ve put a lot of time into it.  Time that I can’t justify in light of the numbers reading those words.  It’s also kind of strange that I’ve had people from about 20 countries reading my blog.  If there’s one thing that I would wish for each of you, it would be that you would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  My best to each of you.

I was in Walmart the other day.  While walking through the store I heard two separate incidents of small children badgering their parent to buy them something.  I assume it was a toy in each case, but it might have been candy or something similar.  It reminded me of an earlier Christmas season at least 25 or 30 years ago.  That time I was in K Mart (we didn’t have Walmart yet) and witnessed a similar occurrence.  Back and forth it went for several minutes.  The child demanded that the woman, apparently his Grandmother, buy him some toy and the woman countering with a variety of reasons why she could not.  Finally, the brat yelled, “if you don’t get it for me I won’t love you anymore, Grandma!”  At that point I had to get away because I was on the verge pushing the old lady on the floor and administering a spanking that kid would remember forever.  It probably would have been his first and his last.

Liberals love to lie about what the Bible says.  “Spare the rod and spoil the child.”  You read that in the Bible, right?  Well, the Bible says no such thing.  What it does say is “Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.”  (Proverbs 13:24 NIV)  I’m sure there will be some liberals who will say there is no real difference between the two versions.  To anyone who feels that way I invite you to consider the motivation inherent in each.  The next thing a liberal will say is that spanking leads to ABUSE.  Again, a lie.  Anyone who would abuse their child doesn’t need to spank as a first step.  And any loving parent following the Biblical command will not abuse their child.

Despite the action I suggested at the end of the first paragraph I have no recollection of ever being spanked.  Ever.  Now I know I was spanked, my mother assured me of that in later life.  I suspect it happened quite often.  Like the time when I was 3 or 4 and my neighbor Corrine, who was a year or two older “borrowed by force” some of my toys and I hit her on the head with a brick, requiring several stitches.  Or the time my buddy Bo and I shot one of my sister’s dolls full of arrows.  I know of those events only because my Mom found great enjoyment in revealing them to my friends and relatives.  I do remember shooting my buddy Mikey in the butt with my BB gun, but that was a scientific experiment.  The only actual “punishment” I know of is another of my Mom’s favorite stories.  She was washing dishes and being sassed by me.  She wheeled around and slapped my face hard with a wet wash cloth.  She said when my Dad got home from work I advised him that, “your wife is trying to kill me.”  Isn’t it interesting that despite many, many spankings I remember none of them.  And I managed to grow up and become a moderately normal and fairly productive member of society.  Never been arrested.  Haven’t killed anybody – yet.

There is another really outlandish example that I cannot really go into due to possibly tender sensibilities out there, but I will describe some aspects of it.  An extremely liberal coworker tried to tell me that there was a verse in the Bible which, essentially, recommended using the services of a prostitute.  From his misquote of the verse I knew exactly what part of the Bible he was misquoting.  It had to do with a Jewish tradition requiring the brother of a man who died to take his sister-in-law as his wife, whether he wanted to or not.  He insisted he had read the whole Bible and had read this himself, but I was certain he had heard it from someone else (as is usually the case) who probably claimed he had read it himself.  When he said he didn’t have time to look it up to show me, I offered him $100 to find it and show me.  That was in the mid-seventies when a $100 dollars was real money.  Not as real as it was in the 50s or 60s, but pretty real.  I dunned him several times on this, but he never came through to collect the money.

God helps those who help themselves.”  OK, this one really steams me.  In one of my posts about Kim Davis I expressed my dismay at the seeming lack of knowledge by professional journalists on the most basic tenants of Christianity.  There are many instances in today’s news requiring reporting on issues related to Christianity.  How can any competent reporter do that without the most basic understanding of how Christianity works.  The Bible clearly teaches that NO ONE can help themselves.  If we could, Christ would not have had to become a man and die for us.  Once we had God’s list of rules in the Bible God could have said, “OK you’re on your own.”  Of course, under that regime (The Law) everybody would go to hell.  But Jesus’ sacrifice provided a way out of this dilemma since we can’t help ourselves.

My advice to you is always verify what someone says is in the Bible before you repeat it yourself – including what I just told you.

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of Donald Trump.  In previous posts I have been quite critical of him.  I will not vote for him in the Republican primary.  But fair is fair and what I discuss below is not fair.  It is a “cheap shot” in the extreme.  It is also typical of the alphabet networks.  Oddly, the Communist Chinese News Network CCTV is more balanced than NBC, CBS, ABC or CNN.  How crazy is that?

Last night’s NBC Evening News featured a “special” report by Tom Brokaw.  In the report Brokaw managed to associate recent comments by Donald Trump about halting Muslim entry into the U.S. with the interning of Japanese Americans at the beginning of WWII, the Nazi Holocaust against the Jews and the demagoguery of Joe McCarthy.  The first thing I’d like to point out is Brokaw’s description of the Japanese internment.  He described it as being done by the “government.”  The fact is that Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which authorized that internment.  62% of those interned were American citizens.  He goes on to describe how unfair it was; those people losing their money, their property and their dignity.  But Tom just couldn’t bring himself to ascribe this action to FDR.  You can bet that if George W. Bush had done something similar the terms Bush and Bush administration would have been in every sentence out of Tom’s mouth.  For FDR, though, the only description he could manage was “the government.”  It also should be pointed out that Brokaw lied about Trump’s position by implying that Trump wanted to permanently end entry by any and all Muslims into the country.  Trump’s pronouncement included only a temporary cessation of non-citizen Muslim entry until an appropriate policy can be decided upon to properly screen incoming individuals for terrorist connections.  How in the world can that be compared to putting 140,000 Japanese Americans in concentration camps?  Tom also neglected to mention the fact that Obama instituted a general cessation of immigration himself earlier in his administration.

Next Brokaw compared Trump’s words to the Nazi Holocaust.  This is despicable and outrageous.  Trump is talking about a temporary period of closing our borders to Muslims (a laughable statement in light of our deplorable lack of control of our borders.)  The Nazis murdered six million Jews and millions of other “enemies of the state.”  I doubt if anyone at NBC has the integrity to tell Brokaw he needs to apologize to Trump, but someone should.

Finally, Brokaw accuses Trump of being a demagogue like Joe McCarthy.  A demagogue tells lies to gain a political advantage.  McCarthy’s “thing” was to destroy the reputations, careers and lives of individuals who may or may not have had communist affiliations.  I’d say a better example of McCarthyism would be the Clintons rather than Trump.  For all the talk of a “war” on women Brokaw never had anything to say about the way Wild Bill’s minions destroyed Paula, Kathleen et al.  Who has Trump tried to destroy?  It does appear that Brokaw is trying to destroy Trump with lies and innuendo so maybe he is a McCarthy acolyte.

Well, you’ve all heard the news of the shootings in California.  Naturally, as usual, POTUS and his fellow Democrats and liberals are blaming guns.  That is much preferable to blaming their own policies.  I’ve previously made my feelings quite plain, I think, in the earlier post Guns, Guns, Guns.  In this post I’d like to comment on my observations of the reported facts made so far by the media.  Those “facts” may be found wanting as we learn more, but I perceive a pattern that is disturbing.  So far they have said that the male went to Saudi Arabia, but not for a long period of time.  They’ve also said that he married a foreign national overseas.  Since they do not mention a second trip it seems likely he married this woman while in Saudi Arabia.  The police have indicated that they discovered several explosive devices in their vehicle, their home and perhaps at the shooting site.

Here is what bothers me.  I think the male began to be self radicalized, perhaps assisted by fellow Muslims and/or perhaps through the Internet.  I suspect that process lead him to contact with a truly radicalized group to which he committed himself, at some point, to a terrorist act or acts.  Knowing that our intelligence services are looking for Muslims who go overseas for extended periods for training, this group talked him into an alternative.  He would marry a women who was already trained who would return to America with him to share her knowledge.  Her terrorist training.  Since arranged marriages are not uncommon in that part of the world it would not set off any alarms.  Of course, it is possible he could have learned bomb making and terrorist tactics online, but only in the academic sense.  A trained Middle Eastern wife could bring practical experience.

This is disturbing to me because it could indicate a change in tactics by terrorist groups to evade our current intelligence procedures.
