JUST A FEW THOUGHTS

First let me say thank you very much Bo, Diana and Steve for taking the time to interact with my blog.  I also appreciate everyone else who has visited the site.  I haven’t had much response yet, but I’ll try to hang in there.  I’ve got a “Dummies” book on blogging and hope to pick up some ideas to increase the site’s appeal.  In the meantime…

I found the Supreme Court’s Obamacare ruling especially interesting in one important way.  About a year ago the show 60 Minutes did a segment about a problem that BP has had with it’s agreement with the federal gummamint on processing claims by businesses and individuals harmed by the big oil spill.  It seems the agreement was, shall we say, “in-artfully” worded in one section that has allowed claims against BP that are, in fact, legalized fraud.  When BP asked the federal courts for relief from these fraudulent claims the court ruled that BP had signed the agreement and it did not matter what the intent of the agreement was.  What did matter was the literal reading of the “in-artful” clause.  Now SCOTUS has weighed in on intent vs. literal interpretation and created a precedence.  SCOTUS says that the intent takes precedence.  I am not a big fan of BP, but fair is fair.  This is not.  I certainly hope that BP will seek to re-litigate this issue.

OK, TIME TO GET SERIOUS

In a previous post I mentioned a lady who wondered rhetorically why it took 30 years for anyone to believe her charges against Bill Cosby.  I have kept to myself for some 40 years an experience I was forced to endure.  But now I must share it with the world.  It was the most humiliating, degrading and embarrassing violation of human dignity imaginable.  Fraternity hazing?  Pfft!  Water-boarding?  Child’s play!  The brightest of you out there have probably already figured out that I’m talking about a Barium Enema.

There are a number of reasons a doctor might prescribe a Barium Enema, and not one of them is good. Now, you don’t just go somewhere and have a Barium Enema; a preparation step must be endured first.  There are two kinds of preparation steps.  One is a rather mild one-day affair.  The other is a much more rigorous two-day regimen.  The first day I was allowed unsweetened tea and fruit juices.  On the second day, I was allowed water.  You might think that this would clean out any digestive system pretty well, but just to be extra sure, I had to self-administer four regular enemas each day.  By the morning of the test, I was a quivering mass of weakness.  I really didn’t care what the results of the test might turn out to be.  All I wanted to do was get the thing over with so I could eat something.  Anything.

It occurred to me that this might actually be part of their strategy.  Once you’re feeling so crummy that you fix yourself on one single goal, you’ll be prepared to endure the most unimaginable indignities to the human body with little resistance, just to finally reach that single goal.

The sign above the entrance to the building said “Medical Arts.”  Ha!  I knew, even then, that “art” had nothing to do with what was about to happen to me.  There was a row of examining rooms along one side of a hallway, each filled with X-ray equipment.  The other side of the hallway was lined with windows and those plastic suction chairs that always have a wet spot on them when you get up.  I never could figure that out.  My pants would be dry, but there would be a wet spot on the chair.  People reading two-year-old magazines occupied most of the chairs.  I think they were running a sort of Barium Enema assembly line.  Beside each examining room was a small dressing room, and each dressing room had it’s own toilet.  That should tell you something right there.  Anyway, they gave me this paper napkin gown and some paper slippers, told me to undress, put on the gown and slippers (with the opening of the gown in back) and wait.  I had just about gotten the wooden bench warmed up, when I was called into the examining room.  I was greeted there by two attractive young ladies.  They always have women examine men and vice versa, just to add to the patient’s humiliation.  They invited me to recline on their X-ray table – facing away from them.

I don’t want to offend any tender sensibilities here, especially if I haven’t already done so, but you need to know that professional Barium Enema equipment is designed to prevent itself from backing out of the intended victim by inflating a small balloon around the probe once inside.  This is an absolute necessity, because the fluid used, though looking like milk, has the consistency of 10W-40 motor oil.  I think some of the race cars at the Indy 500 use it.  Anyway, once they start pumping the stuff into you, that little balloon starts to feel like the Goodyear blimp.  I don’t know what the working pressure is, but it feels like about 40,000 pounds per square inch

The X-ray equipment, as nearly as I could ascertain operated like an over sized 35mm camera with a motorized film advance.  Each time an x-ray was taken I could hear the large sheet of film being advanced and another taking its place.  The sound was very similar to an auto advance 35mm, but louder.  It also must have had some kind of fluoroscope monitor built in, because as the technician operated the equipment, she volunteered a running account of the progress of the procedure.

“That’s beautiful.”

“Very good.”

“Excellent.”

“That’s good, good.”

“Great.”

KLUNK.

“Huh?”  “Uh oh.”

I could hear the young lady flipping switches and tugging at levers.  There was a long pause.

“Uh, Sir, do you think you can hold yourself another twenty minutes?  This machine is broken – we’ll have to use another.  Wait right here, I’ll come back and get you in just a minute.”

“Glurf blublif puvd.”  Did those sounds come out of my mouth?  Was I speaking in tongues?  I know what I wanted to say.  I just wanted to ask if I could be allowed to die in peace.

So there I was, five minutes later, following the technician down the hallway, carrying my professional Barium Enema equipment like an I.V., still hooked up.  Despite the little balloon, some inevitable leakage had occurred and it was dribbling down the backs of my legs.  Some of it was forming a little trail down the hallway and some was running into my paper slippers and squishing between my toes.  Between accommodating that balloon and trying to keep those paper slippers on, I was sort of waddling and shuffling my way down the hall.  The people sitting in the plastic chairs buried their faces in their magazines, trying to pretend they didn’t see me.  By this time my paper napkin gown was wet in several places and was becoming totally unmanageable.  And it never even crossed my mind at the time whether it was open or closed in the back.

Finally, we finished.  The technician deflated the balloon and removed the probe and cheerfully told me I could go back to my dressing room and “let go”.  Mustering as much dignity as possible, I shuffled back down the hallway.  I didn’t care about the people in the plastic chairs.  Their time was coming; mine was over.  Little did I realize that there was yet one final indignity I would have to face.

The next time you have to go to the bathroom, try this experiment.  Pour a cup of motor oil all over your toilet seat and another cup on the floor.  The fact of the matter is, after a Barium Enema, you may go to the toilet, but you can’t stay on the toilet.

I have long felt that some sort of medal should be awarded to those who have been the victim of a Barium Enema.  I guess it’s just one of those injustices that from time to time some are called upon to endure.

THIS JUST IN —–

(AP) Baltimore – Unconfirmed reports were confirmed today that rumors of an impending collision between the Earth and a large asteroid are, in fact, just that.  The asteroid, described by scientists as being about 17 miles in diameter, would intersect the path of the Earth at a point where a collision would occur were the Earth at the same point.

Various businesses report a heavy increase in sales of hard hats, football helmets and large cookware.  However, a government scientist, who agreed to be interviewed only on the condition of anonymity, stated emphatically that no degree of head protection can provide safety from an asteroid 17 miles in diameter.  He did suggest, however, that purchases of room fresheners and deodorizers would be useful, since every living thing on Earth will die.

Senator Mikulski (Dem. Md.), when asked what steps the government should take, said that she will sponsor a bill in the Senate next month to outlaw asteroids.  “In the mean time,” she said, “there is no reason to panic.  However, it is obvious that this could have been avoided had the Bush Administration signed the Kyoto agreement.”

What part, if any, ISIS may have in this is unknown at this time.  However, a White House spokesman said “this is just the kind of thing we would expect from ISIS.”

FILM AT 11:00 …

SCOTUS FORESHADOWS GOD’S JUDGEMENT UPON OUR NATION

Today’s decision by the Supreme Court to disregard the voters of a majority of the states Is profoundly sad and disturbing.  Like the classic cartoon of a grizzled man carrying a sandwich sign proclaiming that it is time to “repent” or “the end is near” I feel compelled to warn you of the danger we face.

The Bible tells us that when God made his covenant with Abraham he made a number of promises concerning blessings that he would bestow upon the nation that Abraham would
father.  The Bible also teaches that God built a hedge of protection around Israel.  But, while that covenant would last forever, the nation of Israel would have that hedge removed if it rebelled against Him.  And that’s exactly what happened.  Despite the warnings of the
prophets, Israel drifted farther and farther from God to the point where, in the 8th century BC, they had purged God from their national life, mocked and persecuted the tiny faithful
remnant and replaced God with idols of all sorts.  They had built a temple to Baal and were even sacrificing their own children to Baal.  In 732 BC The Assyrians attacked and destroyed Samara (Israel’s capitol) and carried off many of the inhabitants.

Finally, and this is the important point, they did not respond to this chastening by turning back to God.  In fact when the time came to rebuild, they’re attitude was arrogance.  This is recorded in Isaiah 9 : 9 &10 —

9     All the people will know it—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—
who say with pride
and arrogance of heart,
10     “The bricks have fallen down,
but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the fig trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.”

Rather than turning back to God to seek his protection they were saying defiantly that they would rebuild with dressed (hewn) stone rather than bricks of clay and straw.  And they
would replant sturdy cedar trees to replace the less hardy fig trees.  They were pronouncing judgement upon themselves.

Eventually, the Assyrians attacked Israel again and utterly destroyed the nation.  Few Jews were left in Israel as almost all were carried away to slavery.

I, among many others, believe that because this country was founded on Biblical principles that God has blessed this nation.  It was and is far from perfect, but our founding documents recognized and honored God. I am certainly not saying that we have been chosen in the same way that God made the Jews his chosen people. But the mere fact of paying honor to God as our founding documents do can bring his blessings.

However, the second half of the 20th century witnessed a profound turning from God by our citizens and our leaders.  God has been purged from our schools. Text books have been written so as to hide our biblical heritage. The murder of our unborn children has been made a sacrament of promiscuity.  The courts have made the exclusion of God and his word from every public place a primary goal. The main stream media has made criticism and derision of anything or anyone relating to Christian belief a central theme.

I think it’s interesting that on September 12, 2001 Senate Majority Lead Tom Daschle addressed the Senate concerning the events of the 11th. Among his remarks he quoted Isaiah 9:10 —

“The bricks have fallen down,
but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the fig trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.”

Then he added “This is what we will do. We will rebuild and we will recover.” With these words he turned the quote from Isaiah of an ancient people into a vow by the U.S. government. A vow not to turn to God, but to overcome our enemies by our own strength.

Then on September 11, 2004 Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate John Edwards delivered remarks observing 9/11 to the Congressional Black Caucus. He too quoted Isaiah 9:10.

Have our own leaders pronounced our future judgement?

YOU’RE ALL CRAZY ! ! !

STOP THE MADNESS

Has everybody gone nuts.  This is so stupid and idiotic it just boggles the mind.  OK, Thomas Jefferson had slaves.  I’ve got a news flash for all the black folks out there who want to get rid of the Jefferson Memorial and all the liberal white nitwits across our great nation.  Blacks owned black and white slaves in Africa long before a white man ever purchased one.  Yes, blacks owned blacks.  And one of the cruelest slave owners in the antebellum south was a black man. In fact, today – this very moment  – there are black slaves in Africa owned by other blacks.

Slave ownership existed before written history.  Throughout history it has been an institution.  It was an accepted part of life.  American Indians enslaved other Indians.  All over Europe people from tribes to nation states owned slaves.  Slavery was also a part of life in Asia.

The Jews were slaves in Egypt for 400 years.  If you think slaves in America had a very difficult time just read about the treatment of the Jews in Egypt.  With that terrible experience in their history Jesus never spoke out against slavery, which existed in Israel in His time.  I know liberals would like to see Jesus edited out of the Bible, but I wonder how many black citizens would like to see that?  The apostle Paul advised slaves that if they had an opportunity to be free to take it, but if not to just accept it.  That sounds like sufficient grounds for kicking Paul out of the Bible.  Since many of the Patriarchs had slaves, perhaps the politically correct thing to do would be to just get rid of the Bible.  I know liberals would just love that.  How do you black folks feel about that?

As I said slavery had become an institution – an accepted fact of life.  No, that did not make slavery any less obscene.  It just made it one of the facts of life.  In 1787 a group of Quakers and evangelical Christians formally came together to fight against slavery.  It took 20 years to get the slave trade outlawed in the British Empire (1807) by William Wilberforce (part of that group).  It then took until 1833 (after Jefferson’s death) to have slavery abolished in the British Empire.  My understanding is that the founding fathers considered addressing slavery in the Constitution, but realized that the southern colonies would never have accepted statehood membership if they did.  If the southern colonies had formed their own country, there would have been no Civil War and they would still have slavery today.  Think about that.

One last thought.  If somebody hates you because of the color of your skin, do you think he will hate you less when you take away his flag. I’m pretty sure that, if anything, he will hate you more.  Slavery was ended by people who had the love of Christ in their hearts; it was not ended by hate.  As I sit here writing this Sean Hannity is playing a clip of some guy named Malik Chabaz (sic) and “minister” Farrakahn (sic) espousing hatred and murder.  Nothing positive will result from that.  NOTHING.

Bill Cosby and His Future

My name is Sam.  I’m an unremarkable person.  I was raised near Baltimore, Maryland, close to the Chesapeake Bay.  Being generous to myself I would say I did moderately well academically.  I spent 10 years in various jobs – mostly doing manual labor – while getting through college.  I then worked for a government agency in Information Technology for 30 years before retiring.  I am one of those born-again, Bible clinging Christians so hated by liberals.  A coworker once described me as being a little to the right of Genghis Khan (or Jengus Khan as John Kerry prefers).  I took it as a compliment.  I’ll leave it to you to decide yourself.  I will certainly confess to being conservative.  Oh, yeah.  All of these facts about me have contributed to my view of the world, the sad state I see it in now and the reasons I feel compelled to write about these issues in this blog.  When I first “typed” the previous sentence, I used the word “talk” rather than “write.” I think this was because I perceive this as though we are having a personal interaction.  So, if I use the word “talk” in the future, please accept it in that sense. If this blog of mine does well enough to survive in the blogosphere I would like to discuss my views and yours.  I’m brand new at this so I’ll be kind of feeling my way until I get the hang of it.  I hope that you’ll be patient with me.  I cannot guarantee a new commentary every day, but I will endeavor to have new material as often as possible.

Ground rules.  I say what I want to say.  You say what you want to say.  However, I will not tolerate foul or offensive language.  For those of you who cannot muster sufficient brainpower to express an idea without the use of four letter words, save that precious energy.  Your brain most certainly will need it and I won’t respond to it.

OK, let’s get to it.  Bill Cosby.  While I was going to college, Bill Cosby came to the University of Maryland to do a concert.  It’s been a very long time so I don’t recall the details.  I believe I must have previously seen Bill on TV and had enjoyed his comedy.  So I attended the concert and became a big fan.  I collected all of his albums, which is remarkable if only for the fact that I didn’t have a record player.  I had to beg the use of my sister’s “HiFi (High Fidelity) Stereo Phonograph.”  It sounds so funny to use those terms today, doesn’t it?  Anyway, as I said, I was a fan of his comedy and have remained one over the years.

Cut to today.  The “Cos” is in deep dodo.  A group of women have come forward (some say out of the woodwork) to accuse the Cos of multiple sexual transgressions, mostly illegal, but now beyond the statute of limitations.  On the specifics of the charges I have no comment.  As has been pointed out it has become a “she said, he said” public campaign in which most who are talking don’t know the facts and those who know aren’t talking.  Those issues will wind their way through courts of public opinion and the judicial branch of government in time.  A number have asked, “Why did it take so long for this to come out?”  One poignant comment does strike me as particularly significant.  One of the accusers asked rhetorically in an article, “why did it take 30 years for anyone to believe me?”  For any of you out there afflicted with similar curiousness, don’t worry.  I have the answer.

The Cos committed a sin.  One of the very few acts liberals consider a sin.  The Cos wandered off the plantation of liberal thought and has been speaking heresy.  That is, he has been enunciating conservative thoughts and ideas about families and society.  Had he the sense to “shuffle” back onto the plantation quickly enough, all these accusations would have quickly been forgiven, buried and forgotten.  But the Cos has sinned and must now be punished.

Liberals can get away with just about anything and the liberal media will cover it up or, at least, minimize it.  Teddy Kennedy killed Mary Jo.  Period.  He killed her.  I did not say “murdered.”  Some have.  I have not.  What was his penalty?  His career path was restricted to go no higher than Senator.  His Mommy told him he could not be President.  Remember the late Robert Byrd?  He was Grand Poba or some such idiocy in the KKK.  Neither that nor his occasional use of the “N” word hurt his Senate career.  In fact, the Democrats made him President Pro Tempore of the Senate.  I’m not sure if that’s considered a step up from Grand Poba or a step down, but the media seemed decidedly uninterested in his previous avocation.  Compare and contrast, as they used to instruct in college, Senator Byrd with the treatment received not long ago from the media by Republican Steve Scalise.

And then, of course, there’s Wild Bill.  He was accused by Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey and others of actions not unlike Cos’ transgressions.  In addition, he lied under oath, he suborned perjury, he effectively destroyed his accusers (with Hillary as his “point man”), he used his power to take advantage of a young girl, he was charged with high crimes and misdemeanors and he was disbarred.  Today, what a surprise, he is one of the most popular Democrats in the country and has been paid millions of dollars to give a few speeches.   Thanks in large part to the media.  Bill and Hillary also have a charitable foundation.  No more than 15% of the money donated to that charity actually goes to programs or projects that actually help people.  The remaining 85% goes to “operating expenses” and into the pockets of Bill, Hillary, Chelsea and the rest of the foundation staff.  That’s millions and millions of dollars.  The media has talked about the speaking fees Bill and Hillary have collected, but you haven’t heard a peep from them about that 15%.  Not a peep.  I’ll give you my Broadway Joe Namath guarantee that if it were discovered that only 15% of donations to Pat Robertson’s 700 Club went to help people it would be story number one on every ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and PBS news broadcast for a month.  Charlie Rose would give it a whole week of roundtable discussions.  60 Minutes would have a special 120-minute show.

So, Cos, maybe there’s still hope.  If you do the smart thing and shuffle back onto the plantation perhaps all will be forgiven.  With proper repentance all those women making all those charges will become mere bimbo bumps (eruptions) on the road back to stardom while James Carville busily drags twenty-dollar bills through the local trailer parks as Wild Bill’s “wing man.”
